Maria DiJosia "Paula" Maria didn't begin her acting career until college, though she always wanted to pursue a career in entertainment. Being practical, however, Maria majored in English and Political Science, thinking she might one day attend law school. But it seems once bitten by the acting bug, forever under its spell, and Maria decided to take some acting classes on the side. As she began to study her craft, she devoted more and more time to it and, eventually, decided to make the big leap: she changed her major to Theater Arts with an emphasis in the Performance Track. Maria never regretted her decision. She spent the remainder of college studying voice, dance, scene study, period movement, Shakespearean theater, and everything else in between. Her courses served her well, as she was later cast in several theater projects including One for the Road, by Harold Pinter, Seven Against Thebes, by Aeschylus, and Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, by Tom Stoppard, to name just a few of her credits. Confident that she had tackled stage work, Maria set her sights on film. Her first feature was Armistice Hall. The Five Stages of Beer, which she describes as a great learning experience, is her second feature. Maria continues to study her craft and has recently acquired an agent. She continues to read for both theater and film, and has decided that San Diego is the place to call home for now. "I have a little boy and San Diego seems to be a wonderful place to raise him," she comments, "besides, there's a ton of work available here." Maria is represented by Nanci Washburn at Artist Management and has one son, Danny, who is the light of her life.
