Fiber-Optic Displays



Here is what I started with.
.030" fibers some shrink tubing and the laser perf'ed plex parts made by Paul Bussiere.


11 strands per hole, with a bit of tubing to hold them together.
Front and rear display that's 198 bundles

 
The trick is to "lens" the end of the strands. A little heat from a heat gun slightly
melts the ends and they mushroom. This stops them from backing out the holes.
And makes the light visible from a wider angle.


Here's the whole thing installed in my R2 dome.
